Wire-car & Dolls day

Onseepkans is a small isolated community next to the Orange River.  There is not a lot of entertainment for children until our wire-car and dolls day started a few years ago.

The event originated out as a competition where fathers help their sons (aged 5-10 years) to build a wire car with the best design of the day winning a prize. The aim was to promote healthy relationships between fathers and sons. Afterwards these cars would be used as toys to keep children busy during the harvest season.

After the first of this wire car competition, the need to involve mothers and daughters was identified, and so the rag doll competition was birthed with the same goals as with the wire car. The Rag dolls brought a whole new dimension to the event as now whole families could participate, spending quality time together.
